Kitchen Assistant Program

Do you love to cook and have fun in the kitchen? Are you interested in helping our Chef's during the course of a class a few times a month? Cooking with Class is offering an opportunity to assist in the kitchen for those who'd like to earn credit towards attending future classes.

Kitchen Assistants arrive early and assist the Chef in setting up for a class. They help greet students and sign them in as they enter and make them comfortable while they settle in. During the class, Kitchen Assistants help the Chef conduct the class by assisting students in preparing food, plating and serving meals, pouring wine & beverages, washing dishes and tidying the kitchen. After class, Kitchen Assistants help the Chef to breakdown the kitchen and clean up.

Taking place in this program is a fun and rewarding way to attend our school without cost to you. For every 3 classes you assist, you will receive credit towards taking the class of your choice up to a $75 value and subject to availability.

Eligible candidates will be serious minded but fun loving, task oriented but relaxed, professional but adventurous! Most importantly you must be reliable because we count on our KA’s help to make our classes run smoothly.

FAQ’s about our Kitchen Assistant Program:

- What kind of experience is required?

There is no experience required although some practical kitchen knowledge is helpful. A willingness to do whatever we throw at you is all we ask!

- Will I be working alone?

We usually schedule two KA’s for every class, unless it is rather large or rather small. Whenever possible we try to schedule with someone who has helped many times on your first class to help acclimate you.

- What time should I arrive?

Unless otherwise scheduled, KA’s are to arrive 45 minutes prior to the posted class start time.

- How do I request a class I’d like to help with?

Once a month – usually during the last week of the month – we send out the available dates for the following month to all KA’s via email. You then have the chance to select the dates you are interested in helping with. The more choices you give us the more likely you will be scheduled. We ask that you do not give us one date only – as many people end up selecting the same dates and this makes scheduling impossible! We then send out a second email with confirmed KA assignments. Please do not send your requests for future months, all dates are first come first served and are open only when the KA email goes out to everyone.

- What if I am scheduled to help and have to cancel?

We ask for as much notice as possible – and then we simply send out a “please help” email to all KA’s to fill your spot. This does happen from time to time but we hope to keep it to a minimum!

- What should I wear?

Please wear closed toed, rubber soled shoes. NO FLIP FLOPS, HEELS OR OPEN TOED SHOES ALLOWED! Otherwise you can wear comfortable clothing of your choice. Hair longer than chin length needs to be tied back securely. Although we do have aprons for you – some people like to bring their own special apron with them!
